Brewers sign Cotts
Jan 30, 2015 - 4:27 PM Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - The Milwaukee Brewers signed reliever Neal Cotts to a one-year contract on Friday.The deal is reportedly worth $3 million.
Cotts had a career year in 2013 for the Texas Rangers, going 8-3 with a 1.11 ERA in 58 appearances. He regressed last season, posting a 2-9 record with a 4.32 ERA in 73 games.
The 34-year-old will replace Zach Duke as a second left-handed option alongside Will Smith in Milwaukee's bullpen. Duke signed a three-year deal with the Chicago White Sox this offseason.
Cotts is 20-24 with a 4.05 ERA in 415 career games (five starts) with the White Sox, Cubs and Rangers. He won a World Series with the White Sox in 2005.
He did not pitch in the majors from 2010 through 2012 because of injuries.
To make room on a full 40-man roster, the Brewers designated utilityman Elian Herrera for assignment.
