Roughriders' Durant among CFL weekly winners
Jul 3, 2012 - 6:47 PM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Darian Durant, Calgary running back Jon Cornish and a pair of Edmonton Eskimos have been named the CFL players of the week for week one of the 2012 season.Durant earned the offensive honor after completing 25-of-34 passes for 390 yards and four touchdowns in Friday's 43-16 thumping of Hamilton.
Edmonton linebacker J.C. Sherritt was named the defensive player of the week after registering 11 tackles and forcing a fumble in Saturday's 19-15 victory over Toronto.
Kicker Grant Shaw, Sherritt's teammate, was named the special teams player of the week after converting all four of his field goal attempts in the Eskimos' narrow win.
Cornish was recognized as this week's top Canadian. He rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 38-10 rout of Montreal.
