RedBlacks acquire Justin Phillips from Stampeders
Feb 11, 2014 - 5:13 PM Ottawa, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - The Ottawa RedBlacks have acquired defensive lineman Justin Phillips and a third-round pick in 2014 from the Calgary Stampeders in exchange for third-round picks in 2014 and 2015.Phillips spent the past seven seasons in Calgary, where he recorded 78 defensive tackles, 78 special teams tackles and four sacks.
"We tried to get Justin during the expansion draft but things did not work out then, but we're glad to be able to acquire such a quality player now," said RedBlacks general manager Marcel Desjardins. "Justin is an Ottawa guy and we believe he's going to thrive in this environment."
Phillips, selected in the first round of the 2007 draft, helped the Stampeders win the 2008 Grey Cup.
On Monday night, the Stampeders acquired a third-round pick in 2014 from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in exchange for a third-round pick in 2014 and the rights to defensive back Chris Randle.
