Eskimos reach deal with All-Star Watkins

Feb 12, 2014 - 9:00 PM Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - The Edmonton Eskimos have signed two-time All-Star defensive back Patrick Watkins, the team announced Wednesday.

Watkins joins the Eskimos off two outstanding seasons with the Toronto Argonauts in which the former NFL safety compiled 110 tackles, 10 interceptions and two quarterback sacks. The 31-year-old recorded 43 tackles and five picks in 2013.

The Florida State product will reunite with new Eskimos head coach Chris Jones, who served as Toronto's defensive coordinator in each of Watkins' two seasons in the league.

Prior to entering the CFL, Watkins played in 53 games with the Dallas Cowboys (2006-09) and San Diego Chargers (2010) over five NFL seasons.
