Stampeders sign Jock Sanders

Feb 26, 2014 - 12:19 AM Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - The Calgary Stampeders signed kick returner and running back Jock Sanders on Tuesday.

Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sanders, 25, spent the last two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and saw action in 12 regular-season games last year, accumulating 1,485 all- purpose yards.

"I'm very happy to be a Stampeder," Sanders said. "From my time in Saskatchewan, I have the utmost respect for Calgary and the organization and I'm glad to be a part of that now. The Stampeders have been a very successful team for quite a few years and I'm looking forward to doing whatever I can to contribute to a championship."

In 22 career regular-season games in the CFL, the West Virginia product has amassed 2,694 all-purpose yards including 1,287 on kickoff returns, 773 on punt returns, 373 on receptions and 261 on rushing carries.

Also Tuesday, Calgary acquired a fifth-round pick (40th overall) in the 2014 CFL Draft in exchange for kick returner Larry Taylor and a 2014 fifth-round pick (43rd overall). The deal also includes conditional 2015 draft picks.
