Stampeders QB Mitchell signs through 2018

Mar 3, 2015 - 8:39 PM Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Grey Cup-winning quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell has signed an extension with the Calgary Stampeders through the 2018 season, the team announced Tuesday.

Mitchell was named Most Outstanding Player of the CFL title game in November after passing for 334 yards in a 20-16 win over Hamilton, which gave Calgary its seventh Grey Cup title.

The Stampeders announced the extension on Mitchell's 25th birthday.

The three-year veteran passed for 3,389 yards and 22 touchdowns last season, throwing eight interceptions. He was 13-2 as a starter.

"Bo Levi has set the bar very high for himself after his performance last season but with his ability and determination, I believe he has room to grow and improve even more," reigning CFL coach of the year John Hufnagel said in a statement.

"The team has made a long-term commitment to Bo Levi and I'm pleased that he has made a long-term commitment to the Stampeders. This signing provides stability for the team at a crucial position."

As a quarterback at Eastern Washington, Mitchell won the 2011 Walter Payton Award as the top offensive player in FCS college football. He was signed by the Stampeders as a free agent on April 30, 2012.
