Paredes lifts Stamps past Tiger-Cats in Grey Cup rematch

Jun 27, 2015 - 4:21 AM Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Rene Paredes' 50-yard field goal as time expired lifted the Calgary Stampeders to a 24-23 win over the Hamilton Tiger- Cats in a Grey Cup rematch to kick off the season for both teams on Friday night.

A single staked the Ti-Cats to a 23-21 edge with 44 seconds remaining, but Bo Levi Mitchell's 29-yard completion to Jeff Fuller helped set up the last- second kick.

Calgary (1-0) beat Hamilton (0-1) 20-16 in the Grey Cup in November.

Fuller finished with nine receptions for 149 yards, while Levi Mitchell went 22-of-35 for 264 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions for the Stamps.

Zach Collaros was 27-of-38 for 281 yards and an interception for Hamilton.

Keon Raymond's 98-yard interception return for a touchdown and Jon Cornish's successful two-point run tied the game at 18-18 midway through the third quarter. Justin Medlock split the uprights from 30 yards out on the final play of the frame to put Hamilton back in front.

Earlier, after shaking off a pick-six to stake Hamilton to the early lead, Levi Mitchell hit Eric Rogers for a 30-yard score to tie the game at 7-7 past the halfway mark of the first.

Brandon Banks' 67-yard punt return for a touchdown and an ensuing single gave Hamilton a 15-7 margin.

Both teams traded field goals in the second and Hamilton led 18-10 at the break.

Game Notes

Calgary has won 11 of the last 12 regular-season contests against Hamilton, including the last 11 at home ... Collaros did not play in either game against Calgary in last year's regular season.
