McIlroy tightens grip on No. 1 ranking
Sep 4, 2012 - 3:46 PM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Rory McIlroy's victory Monday at the Deutsche Bank Championship solidified his spot atop this week's world rankings.McIlroy, who got back to No. 1 with his win at the PGA Championship, won by a single shot over Louis Oosthuizen Monday at the TPC Boston.
Luke Donald, Tiger Woods, Lee Westwood and Webb Simpson once again completed the top five.
Adam Scott, who tied for sixth at the Deutsche Bank Championship, rose three to sixth. Jason Dufner remained in seventh, followed by Bubba Watson, who fell two to No. 8. Justin Rose dipped one to ninth and Steve Stricker, who was added to the U.S. Ryder Cup team by Davis Love III on Tuesday, held on to 10th.
Oosthuizen shot up six to 11th and Keegan Bradley stayed in 12th. Matt Kuchar fell two to 13th and Dustin Johnson climbed two to 14th. Graeme McDowell slid two to No. 15.
Zach Johnson dropped one to 16th, while Sergio Garcia fell three to 17th. Brandt Snedeker, who took sixth in Boston, and, like Stricker, Dustin Johnson and Jim Furyk, was added to the U.S. Ryder Cup team, moved up two to No. 18.
Hunter Mahan and Nick Watney, who were both snubbed by Love on Tuesday, both fell a spot each to round out the top 20.
