MacIntosh, Turner & Gibson grab week eight honors in MLL
Jun 26, 2012 - 2:36 PM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional lacrosse league, announced Monday its weekly award winners for the week ending June 24, 2012, according to Commissioner David Gross. Rochester Rattlers attackman Jordan MacIntosh was named as the Offensive Player of the Week while Chesapeake Bayhawks goalkeeper Kip Turner earned the MLL Defensive Player of the Week award.In addition, Long Island Lizards attackman Matt Gibson was honored as the Cascade Rookie of the Week.
While leading the Rattlers to a 17-10 victory over the Hamilton Nationals on Saturday night, MacIntosh scored five goals with an assist en route being named as the Bud Light MLL Player of the Game. He scored three of his goals in the fourth quarter during a 5-0 run to end the game.
MacIntosh, who had scored just four goals in his first four games this season, is the Rattlers' third-leading scorer with 11 points this season. He has scored nine goals with two assists.
Meanwhile, Turner played a major role in the Bayhawks' 14-13 victory over the defending MLL champion Boston Cannons on Saturday night. Named as the Bud Light MLL Player of the Game, Turner made a season-high 17 saves, including nine in the fourth quarter, as the Bayhawks won their fifth straight game. In the final five minutes, he made five saves to preserve the lead, including a save of a Kevin Buchanan shot with 37 seconds left.
Turner ranks fourth in the MLL with an 11.10 goals against average while stopping 50.0 per cent of the shots he has faced.
While helping the Lizards earn their fifth straight win with a 14-8 victory over Denver on Saturday night, Gibson scored three goals with an assist. He scored all three of his goals in the second half as the Lizards outscored Denver by 9-3 after the intermission.
Gibson, who was honored as the Cascade MLL Rookie of the Week for the second time this year, is the Lizards' third-leading scorer with 20 points. He has scored 10 goals with a team-high 10 assists in five games this year.
