Dodgers top slumping Braves

Aug 13, 2014 - 3:04 AM Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Dan Haren reached double-digit wins for the 10th straight season by pitching the Los Angeles Dodgers past the Atlanta Braves, 4-2, in the second meeting of a four-game series at Turner Field.

Haren (10-9) limited the slumping Braves to two runs on six hits over six frames as the Dodgers eked out a third consecutive victory.

"You get to this point in the season... and you just want to win," Haren said.

Darwin Barney, Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp each drove in a run in helping send Atlanta to its 11th loss in 13 games.

"We're working hard...but we're not getting many results," Braves third baseman Chris Johnson said. "We just can't figure it out right now."

Mike Minor (4-8) was not hit hard but nonetheless came up on the losing end after allowing three runs on eight hits across 6 2/3 innings.

The best contact all game came off the bat of B.J. Upton, whose solo blast in the fourth inning gave the Braves a 2-1 lead.

The Dodgers answered with two runs in their next turn, however. Haren singled with one out, jogged to third when Carl Crawford doubled into the right-field gap and scored the tying run on Puig's groundout.

Kemp then fisted one into short right, and Tommy La Stella was unable to make a tough over-the-shoulder grab, allowing Crawford to score.

A two-base error by Emilio Bonifacio on Barney's routine ground ball to short led to another LA run in the ninth. Barney moved to third on a groundout and raced home on David Hale's wild pitch.

Kenley Jansen pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to close out his 33rd save.

The Dodgers opened the scoring in the second inning when Barney's bloop single plated Justin Turner, who reached base after taking a fastball off his helmet.

With a runner on in the home third, Justin Upton sent a short fly ball to a vacant left-center field. Puig tried making a diving catch but only made matters worse when the ball bounced and caromed off his glove and towards the left-field line. La Stella was running on contact and scored without a throw.
