Blue Jays rally past Red Sox

Jul 24, 2014 - 6:23 AM Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Jose Bautista homered and added an RBI double as the Toronto Blue Jays came away with a 6-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday.

Colby Rasmus, Josh Thole and Ryan Goins each drove in runs for the Blue Jays, who rallied from an early three-run deficit to win their second in a row in the four-game series, which ends Thursday.

R.A. Dickey (8-10) hung in long enough for the win, lasting six full frames despite allowing four runs on nine hits with five strikeouts. Casey Janssen collected his 15th save with a perfect ninth.

"When you start the game giving up three runs without recording an out, it can really weight on you mentally," Dickey stated. "It was a very satisfying win for me personally because I kept us in the game long enough for us to scratch it out."

David Ortiz hit a three-run blast for the Red Sox, while Clay Buchholz (5-6) surrendered four earned runs on six hits while walking four over six innings.

The Jays took the lead for the first time in the contest thanks to two runs in the sixth. Thole walked with one away and was tripled in by Goins, then Jose Reyes reached on a low throw to first base by Xander Bogaerts that plated Goins, which put the hosts up 5-4.

Bautista followed up by greeting Andrew Miller with a long homer to left for a two-run Toronto edge in the seventh.

After Dickey's exit, Aaron Sanchez retired all six batters he faced in order, then Janssen repeated the feat in the ninth to lock up the win.

"I'll take the blame for this one," Buchholz said.

Dickey was down 3-0 before recording an out, as Shane Victorino and Dustin Pedroia smacked consecutive singles before Ortiz cleared the bases with a long homer to right which caromed off the facing of the second deck near the foul pole.

Toronto countered in the home half of the first on Bautista's double to score Reyes and a Rasmus groundout to bring home Bautista. After Munenori Kawasaki bounced a grounder off Buchholz's shoulder to put runners on the corners, Thole's deep fly to left one-hopped the wall for a double and tied the score.

Boston failed to break the tie despite having runners on the corners with two down in the third and a similar situation with none out in the fourth.

The visitors did pick up a run in the fifth, as Daniel Nava hit a ground-rule double and scored on a Bogaerts double.
