Rangers rout White Sox 16-0

Aug 6, 2014 - 5:44 AM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Robinson Chirinos homered twice to lead an offensive onslaught by the Texas Rangers in a 16-0 drubbing of the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.

Adrian Beltre, J.P. Arencibia and Shin-Soo Choo all went deep for the Rangers, who snapped a four-game losing streak by scoring a season high in runs. Texas scored just eight runs over that stretch.

"We know that even though we have a young team, (the young guys) have talent, they know they can hit and it's just a matter of getting it done on the field," said Beltre.

Colby Lewis (8-8) went the distance in his second career shutout. The right- hander scattered six hits and a walk, striking out seven in the win.

John Danks (9-7) was battered for nine runs on eight hits and five walks over 4 2/3 innings.

"I felt great," said Danks. "It's a shame to get your butt kicked on a night when you feel good."

Choo doubled to begin the game, then later scored on a single by Alex Rios. Beltre followed Rios with his 16th homer of the season that staked the Rangers to a 3-0 lead.

Chirinos led off the second inning with his 10th home run of the year to increase the cushion. Three of the next five Texas hitters reached base via the walk before Arencibia laced a double to left that cleared the bags.

Arencibia homered to begin the sixth, then Chirinos clubbed his second of the night three batters later to push the margin to 9-0. Choo homered an inning later to make it a 10-run game.

With the bases loaded and one out in the seventh, Daniel Robertson joined in on the hit parade with an RBI single to right that scored two. Elvis Andrus added a run-scoring double and Robertson later scored on a wild pitch from a strikeout of Jim Adduci. Robertson sent another RBI hit to right an inning later.

Because the game was well lost by the ninth, Chicago opted to use designated hitter Adam Dunn as a reliever. Dunn, who never pitched an inning over his 14- year career, got Andrus to ground out before Adduci reached on a fielding error by Alexei Ramirez. Arencibia popped out after a Beltre walk, then Adam Rosales ripped a single to center that plated Adduci. Rougned Odor sent a high fly ball to the edge of the warning track in left that was caught by Dayan Viciedo to end the inning.
