White Sox snap skid with win over Tribe
Aug 28, 2014 - 5:44 AM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jose Abreu drove in two, and singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Chicago clipped Cleveland, 3-2, in the second test of a three-game series.Adam Dunn knocked in the other run, while Adam Eaton collected two hits and scored twice for the White Sox, who put an end to their seven-game losing skid.
Hector Noesi (8-9) worked seven innings for the win, allowing six hits and a pair of runs while striking out five.
"Tonight he looked sharp, he had an extra day of rest," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "I think his fastball was extra sharp tonight. It looked like he was sneaking it up on some people."
Michael Bourn finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and Lonnie Chisenhall went deep for the Indians, who saw their three-game winning streak halted.
Corey Kluber (13-8) gave up three runs on nine hits despite fanning eight over 6 1/3 frames.
Chisenhall's loping drive settled just beyond the fence in right near the foul pole to tie the game in the seventh, but the White Sox rebounded to take the lead for good in the home half.
Carlos Sanchez singled, Eaton doubled, then Sanchez was tagged out at home on an Alexei Ramirez grounder to third. After replay determined Tribe catcher Roberto Perez did not obstruct the plate, it left runners on the corners for Abreu, whose base hit brought in Eaton with the lead run.
"I gave him the lane, but I was surprised they challenged it," Perez said.
Javy Guerra retired the side in order in the eighth, but exited with two away in the ninth after allowing a Jason Kipnis single and plunking Zach Walters. Zach Putnam killed the rally by inducing a game-ending fly out from Chris Dickerson.
Perez kept the Indians' third alive with a two-out double then crossed the plate when Bourn followed with a single to center.
Chicago responded in the home half, as Eaton tripled and scored on an Abreu single, and Abreu came in when Dunn followed with a double.
