Twins crush White Sox

Sep 4, 2014 - 5:43 AM Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Kennys Vargas homered and drove in three to help the Minnesota Twins in an 11-4 rout of the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday.

Eduardo Escobar, Eduardo Nunez and Oswaldo Arcia each drove in two runs for the Twins, who had lost four of five entering the contest.

Trevor May (1-4) picked up his first major-league win after going five innings and allowing three runs on six hits with six strikeouts.

"A good night all the way around for us," said Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. "We got our starting pitcher a win. At the end, they couldn't stop us."

John Danks (9-10) was tagged for seven runs on 11 hits over 4 2/3 frames in the loss.

"Every time I threw a fastball it seemed like they knew it was coming," Danks said. "It was just an all-around bad night."

Dayan Viciedo homered and knocked in three runs to highlight Chicago's offense.

The Twins put together three consecutive hits to begin the home first which produced a two-run advantage. Danny Santana ripped a single into left-center before Nunez tripled to right that gave the Twins a 1-0 lead. Joe Mauer followed with an infield single that plated Nunez.

After Vargas grounded into a double play, Josmil Pinto and Arcia connected with back-to-back doubles that extended Minnesota's edge to 3-0.

Chicago got two back in the fourth when Viciedo cranked a homer out to left that scored Avisail Garcia. The White Sox then tied it an inning later on an RBI single by Adam Eaton.

Nunez doubled to lead off the fifth and Mauer walked to put a pair of runners on before a brief rain delay. Coming out of the break, Vargas delivered a run- scoring hit and Arcia added an RBI groundout two batters later. Aaron Hicks then singled, which ended Danks' night, and Escobar lined a triple to right off reliever Matt Lindstrom that plated a pair to give Minnesota a 7-3 lead. Alexei Ramirez's error in the next at-bat allowed Escobar to cross home.

Mauer walked preceding Vargas' two-run blast to left-center in the sixth that increased the cushion to 10-3.

Viciedo singled home a run in the away eighth and Nunez supplied an RBI hit in the home half to account for the final margin.
