Granderson, d'Arnaud power Mets past Reds

Sep 6, 2014 - 6:00 AM Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Curtis Granderson and Travis d'Arnaud each hit three-run home runs and drove in four runs apiece to help the New York Mets defeat the Cincinnati Reds, 14-5, in the opener of a three-game set on Friday.

"Any time you can get hits, it's always a good thing," Granderson said. "Especially when it comes at a time you can help your team get a victory, it's always a positive thing.

Lucas Duda hit a two-run homer, Wilmer Flores and Dilson Herrera added solo shots and David Wright finished 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Mets, who are 8-3 in their last 11 games in Cincinnati.

Bartolo Colon (13-11) earned the win after giving up two runs on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts over seven innings of work.

Devin Mesoraco and Todd Frazier each homered for Cincinnati, which lost its fourth straight game. Alfredo Simon (13-10) took the loss after giving up a season-high six runs on eight hits and three walks across four frames.

"They scored in every inning but one. It didn't give us any chance to be in the game," Reds manager Bryan Price said.

Matt den Dekker took a one-out walk in the first and moved to third on Wright's base hit to right. Wright stole second, d'Arnaud's liner to left two batters later scored den Dekker and Granderson's RBI double plated Wright for a 2-0 score.

Mesoraco responded for the Reds in the home half, smacking his 22nd homer of the season to left.

After Flores was thrown out at home for the first out of the second, Duda worked a bases-loaded walk off Simon to usher in a run.

Brandon Philips and Brayan Pena both singled to place runners at the corners to start the second. Phillips scored after Colon misplayed Jason Bourgeois' grounder to the mound, making it a 3-2 game.

New York extended its lead in the fourth. Juan Lagares singled and Duda was intentionally walked before d'Arnaud's three-run shot to left gave the Mets a 6-2 advantage.

Flores made it a 7-2 contest with a solo shot off J.J. Hoover with one out in the fifth.

Ryan Dennick took the mound for the Reds in the sixth and didn't fare much better. Wright and d'Arnaud both singled and Granderson hammered a 3-1 fastball to right for a 10-2 game.

Wright hit an RBI double to left off Logan Ondrusek in the seventh and Herrera' second career homer in the eighth gave the Mets a 12-2 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, Frazier hit his 24th homer of the season.

Duda countered with a two-run shot in the ninth to score Josh Satin, who was hit by a pitch.

Jack Hannahan drove a liner over the head of Herrera at second base for a two- run single in the bottom of the ninth to account for the final score.
