Final/12
Indians beat Rangers in 12 on dramatic HRs
Aug 4, 2014 - 3:43 AM Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - David Murphy tied the game with a two-run homer in the ninth inning and Michael Brantley won it with a solo blast in the 12th.The Cleveland Indians continue to have the Texas Rangers' number.
The dramatic homers by Murphy and Brantley on Sunday afternoon gave Cleveland a 4-3 win -- its sixth-straight over Texas and 11th in the last 12 meetings, capping a three-game sweep.
Murphy also had an RBI double and flashed the glove in right field, making a diving catch in the top of the ninth and racing back to catch a ball on the warning track in the 12th.
His homer to right field in the ninth came after Chris Dickerson's one-out walk off Neftali Feliz, tying the game at 3-3 and spoiling Texas ace Yu Darvish's chance to beat the Indians for the second time this season.
"Bottom line is we got the ball to the ninth inning with a chance to win and we just didn't close it down," Rangers manager Ron Washington said.
"Our pitching kept it close, Murph hits the ball out of the park and we get to keep playing," said Indians manager Terry Francona.
Darvish, who beat the Indians on June 6, pitched seven innings and was in line to record consecutive wins for the first time in almost two months. He struck out eight and allowed one run on four hits and two walks but Texas fell for the sixth straight time on the road.
Brantley lined his 16th homer of the season over the right-field wall on the seventh pitch of his leadoff at-bat against Phil Klein (0-1).
It came after Cleveland wasted opportunities in the 10th -- Lonnie Chisenhall grounded into a double play with runners at first and second -- and the 11th, when they made the last two outs with the bases loaded.
Indians starter Trevor Bauer went 7 1/3 innings for the Indians, giving up three runs on six hits and four walks.
Elvis Andrus hit a one-out double in the first inning and scored from second on Alex Rios' bloop single to center field to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
Bauer loaded the bases with a hit batter and two walks an inning later, and the Rangers scored two runs on sacrifice flies by Rougned Odor and Shin-Soo Choo to make it 3-0.
Cleveland's first run came after Chisenhall one-hopped a double off the left- center field wall and Murphy doubled off the wall in right in the bottom of the second.
Bauer came out with runners at first and second in the eighth. John Axford got the last two outs.
Neal Cotts pitched a perfect eighth inning in relief of Darvish.
