Arcia homers as Twins top Tribe
Sep 10, 2014 - 5:37 AM Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Oswaldo Arcia delivered a two-run homer in a four-run fourth inning that helped the Minnesota Twins defeat the Cleveland Indians, 4-3, in the opener of a three-game set on Tuesday.Kennys Vargas and Trevor Plouffe each knocked in runs for the Twins, who snapped a four-game losing streak.
Trevor May (2-4) won his second straight start after yielding two runs on five hits over five innings.
"It was a combination of getting ahead of hitters...and making each pitch as it comes," May said.
Trevor Bauer (5-8) took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits with eight strikeouts over eight innings.
Yan Gomes drove in two runs and Lonnie Chisenhall had an RBI in the setback.
A single from Carlos Santana and double from Jason Kipnis put men on second and third to begin the second inning for Cleveland. Chisenhall followed with an RBI groundout before Gomes sent a sacrifice fly to right for a 2-0 lead.
Bauer didn't allow a hit until Joe Mauer doubled with two outs in the fourth. Vargas proceeded to knock Mauer in with a double to right, then Plouffe tied the game a batter later with a single to left. Arcia kept the momentum going with a two-run homer to right-center for a 4-2 Twins lead.
Gomes sent Santana home with an RBI hit in the eighth to trim the deficit to one, but Jared Burton needed just six pitches in the ninth to secure his second save of the season.
"We got baserunners but we couldn't get anything going," Indians manager Terry Francona said.
