Kluber fans 14, Tribe top Astros
Sep 17, 2014 - 5:58 AM Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Corey Kluber struck out a career-high 14 batters over seven one-run innings as the Cleveland Indians defeated the Houston Astros, 4-2, in the second test of a four-game set.Kluber (16-9) scattered seven hits and walked two for the Indians, who snapped a four-game losing streak. Yan Gomes smacked a two-run homer among his two hits in the win.
"Just executing pitches at the right time," Kluber said.
Cody Allen tossed 1 1/3 shutout innings to notch his 21st save of the year.
Jose Altuve posted two hits to set the team's single-season hits record in defeat, surpassing Craig Biggio's 210-hit campaign in 1998.
"He's just a special player and a special kind of guy," Astros interim manager Tommy Lawless said.
Nick Tropeano (1-1) surrendered two runs -- one earned -- on four hits and two walks over five frames for Houston, which had its five-game winning streak at Minute Maid Park snapped.
The game was tied 1-1 before the Indians plated a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth to go ahead.
Lonnie Chisenhall hit a two-out single in the fourth. Gomes then ripped a base hit to left, and Chisenhall was able to score from first when Robbie Grossman bobbled the ball in left.
In the sixth, Santana coaxed a leadoff walk and Gomes laced his two-run blast quickly into the Crawford Boxes with two outs to give Cleveland a 4-1 lead.
Alex Presley's RBI single in the eighth trimmed the deficit in half to 4-2.
Carlos Santana's RBI groundout in the top of the first opened the scoring, but the Astros got the run back in the home half on Marwin Gonzalez's RBI single.

Kluber's previous career-high for strikeouts in a game was 13 on May 4 against the Chicago White Sox ... It was Altuve's 64th multi-hit game of the year ... Cleveland was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position, while Houston finished 3-for-10.
