Carrasco, Indians blank Astros

Sep 18, 2014 - 5:35 AM Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Carlos Carrasco tossed his first career shutout as the Cleveland Indians blanked the Houston Astros, 2-0, in the third test of a four-game set.

Carrasco (8-5) struck out 12, scattered two hits and walked one for the Indians, who have won back-to-back games on the heels of a four-game losing streak.

"He just pitched with so much confidence and attacked the entire night," Indians manager Terry Francona said of Carrasco.

Yan Gomes went 2-for-4 and drove in both runs in the triumph.

Brett Oberholtzer (5-12) allowed two runs on seven hits over 7 2/3 frames for Houston.

"We had two hits and we didn't have many chances to score runs today," Astros interim manager Tom Lawless said.

Cleveland plated a run in the fourth and another in the sixth for the game's only runs.

Carlos Santana hit a two-out double in the fourth and Gomes followed with a single to center to bring him home. In the sixth, Michael Brantley bunted for a single with one out and Gomes' triple two batters later plated him for a 2-0 Cleveland advantage.

Jose Altuve had both hits for the Astros, but was stranded at third in the fourth and at second in the ninth.

Game Notes

The Indians were 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position, while Houston finished 0-for-3 ... Altuve has an AL-leading 213 hits on the season to go with 53 stolen bases.
