Nicasio, Rockies top Mets

May 2, 2014 - 5:35 AM Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Juan Nicasio pitched seven strong innings, and drove in three runs to help the Colorado Rockies to a 7-4 win over the New York Mets to open a four-game set.

Nicasio (3-1) gave up just three hits and a walk while striking out two, and Corey Dickerson was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Rockies, who have won four of five.

"This is a big step for him," said Colorado manager Walt Weiss about Nicasio. "He's been good early so far and hopefully he can get on a roll."

Carlos Gonzalez hit a home run in the win, but left in the fourth inning with a left index finger contusion. The team said he is day-to-day.

Bartolo Colon (2-4) was tagged for all seven runs on nine hits in just 4 2/3 innings for the Mets, who had won five of six coming into the contest.

"He did not have the usual command that he has," said New York manager Terry Collins about Colon. "He'd try to come in and throw it away, he'd try to throw it away and it would come up and in."

Travis d'Arnaud hit a three-run home run and Juan Lagares drove in the other run in the loss.

Gonzalez homered, his sixth of the season, with two outs in the first to stake the Rockies to a 1-0 lead.

In the second, the Rockies added to their lead as Nicasio punched a single to right that plated Dickerson and Charlie Culberson for a 3-0 advantage.

The fourth inning saw Colorado chase home three more runs. With the bases loaded, Nicasio lofted a sac fly to bring in one run, and Charlie Blackmon brought home another with a single. Nolan Arenado then hit a sac fly for a 6-0 lead.

Colorado made it a 7-0 game in the fifth as Justin Morneau singled with one out and Dickerson brought him home with a triple.

Nicasio didn't allow a runner past second over his time on the mound, but the Mets plated a run in the eighth off Chad Bettis as Bobby Abreu drew a two-out walk and came home when Lagares followed with a double.

Bettis then gave up d'Arnaud's homer in the ninth to make it a three-run game, but got Ruben Tejada to line out to finish the contest.

Game Notes

Arenado went 1-for-3 in the game to extend his hit streak to 21 games, the longest in the majors this season. He tied Larry Walker for the fourth longest streak in franchise history ... New York second baseman Daniel Murphy went 0- for-4 in the game and had his 10-game hitting streak stopped ... Nicasio improved to 2-0 in two games against the Mets ... Colon fell to 2-1 in three games against the Rockies.
