Dickerson powers Rockies past Giants
Sep 4, 2014 - 2:54 AM Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Corey Dickerson homered twice as the Colorado Rockies defeated the San Francisco Giants, 9-2, in the rubber match of a three-game set on Wednesday.Nolan Arenado hit a three-run homer and Michael McKenry also homered for the Rockies, who won its first season series against the Giants since going 11-7 vs. SF in 2008
Christian Bergman (2-2) earned the win after allowing just two runs on nine hits over six innings.
"I just feel like I'm getting my normal at-bats, just putting good swings on the ball," Dickerson said.
Buster Posey drove in both runs and Gregor Blanco scored twice and tripled for San Francisco, which entered the game with wins in seven of its last eight games.
Starter Ryan Vogelsong (8-10) was reached for eight runs on 10 hits over five- plus innings in the loss.
"It's an adventure out there," said Vogelsong. "The ball flies, especially during the day. Every bloop shot falls in because the (outfield) plays deep. Their infield grass is really quick so it seems like a lot of ground balls get through that normally don't."
In the first, Blanco and Joe Panik both singled to place runners at the corners before Posey's sacrifice fly gave the Giants an early lead.
Dickerson opened the second with a solo shot to right-center for a tied ball game.
Blanco tripled to right with one out in the fifth and came home on Posey's base hit to left for a 2-1 advantage.
The Rockies countered with four runs in the home half. Josh Rutledge worked a two-out walk and Justin Morneau singled before Arenado stroked a three-run shot just over the wall in left. Dickerson followed with his second homer of the game as Colorado took a 5-2 lead.
McKenry led off the sixth and capped a nine-pitch at-bat by belting a fastball to center for his sixth home run of the season. DJ LeMahieu and Kyle Parker both singled to end Vogelsong's outing.
Charlie Blackmon laid down a sac bunt off Juan Gutierrez to move the runners up a base before Rutledge's triple plated them both. Rutledge tagged up and scored on Morneau's sac fly to make it 9-2.
Game Notes
Giants outfielder Angel Pagan was a late scratch due to lower back stiffness ...
