Myers, Rays top Yankees

May 4, 2014 - 11:01 PM Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Wil Myers knocked in four runs, three of which came on an inside-the-park homer, to back six solid innings out of Erik Bedard in the Tampa Bay Rays' 5-1 victory over the New York Yankees.

Myers added an RBI double, one of 10 hits let up by CC Sabathia in the struggling lefty's 3 2/3-inning stint, to help the Rays claim the rubber match of this three-game series and wrap up a 10-game road trip at 5-5.

Bedard (1-1) did his part as well, yielding just one run on six hits and a walk to notch his first win as a starter since June 26 of last season.

"I didn't realize how long it's been, but yeah, it's nice," he said.

Sabathia (3-4) allowed all five Tampa Bay runs in his shortest outing of the year, which raised his ERA to 5.75 and sent the Yankees to a fourth loss in five games.

"I just didn't have the stuff," Sabathia said. "My shoulder was flying up and I couldn't get a feel for my changeup. Fastball was all over the place. It's frustrating, not being able to put us in a good position to win."

Desmond Jennings finished 3-for-4 with a run scored in the triumph, with Logan Forsythe collecting two hits while scoring twice and Evan Longoria contributing an RBI double.

Myers stepped to the plate with two on and the game tied at 1-1 in the third inning and drove a Sabathia pitch deep to right center. The ball struck the top of the fence as a leaping Jacoby Ellsbury fell on his back, and Myers was about to round third by the time Carlos Beltran finally got to the ball from right field. He scored without a throw.

"Off the bat, I thought it was gone," Myers said. "[I] Wasn't stopping. Wasn't stopping."

Jennings helped set up the pivotal play by doubling two batters earlier, right before Sabathia walked Longoria.

Myers came through again in his next at-bat, lacing a double into the left- field corner in the fourth that brought in Forsythe for a 5-1 Tampa Bay lead.

Bedard was able to snuff out a Yankee threat in the fifth to keep it a three- run game, retiring Ellsbury, Derek Jeter and Beltran in succession after Brett Gardner reached on a bunt single and advanced a base on John Ryan Murphy's base hit.

New York produced few other scoring chances the rest of the way, with Tampa relievers Jake McGee, Joel Peralta and Grant Balfour permitting only one hit over the final three innings.

Sabathia also struggled through a shaky opening inning, surrendering doubles to Forsythe and Longoria three batters in that gave the Rays a quick 1-0 edge.

The Yankees pulled even in the bottom of the second, which Mark Teixeira began with a single and Alfonso Soriano doubled him to third in front of a Yangervis Solarte sac fly.
