Iwakuma, M's blank Blue Jays

Aug 14, 2014 - 6:20 AM Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Hisashi Iwakuma tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings and Kendrys Morales smacked a two-run homer as the Seattle Mariners blanked the Toronto Blue Jays, 2-0, to sweep a three-game set.

Iwakuma (11-6) struck out five, scattered five hits and walked one for the Mariners, who finished off their nine-game homestand at 8-1.

R.A. Dickey (9-12) allowed two runs on seven hits and four walks over six frames for Toronto, which has dropped nine of its last 12 games on the heels of a six-game winning streak.

"We have been streaky ... we are due for a good one," Dickey said.

The Mariners opened the scoring with two runs in the first and Iwakuma and the Seattle bullpen did the rest.

Austin Jackson led off the first with a single and Morales launched his two- run shot into the seats in right three batters later to give the M's a 2-0 advantage.

Toronto had a runner in scoring position with two outs in both the first and third frames, but came away empty handed. Adam Lind and Melky Cabrera grounded out in the first and third frames, respectively, with two away.

The Blue Jays had the tying runners on second and third in the fourth, but Munenori Kawasaki struck out to end that threat. They didn't put another runner into scoring position until the seventh, but Danny Farquhar fanned Jose Reyes to finish off that inning.

Yoervis Medina tossed a scoreless eighth and Fernando Rodney blanked the Blue Jays in the ninth to notch his 35th save of the season.
