Odor, Rangers power past Mariners
Aug 28, 2014 - 12:54 AM Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Rougned Odor hit a grand slam, Leonys Martin added a two-run homer and the Texas Rangers beat the Seattle Mariners, 12-4, on Wednesday afternoon to wrap up a three-game series.Rangers right-hander Colby Lewis snapped a three-start losing streak with his second complete game of the season. Lewis (9-11) struck out seven, walked one and gave up four runs and seven hits.
Martin had three hits, three RBI and scored twice for the Rangers, who have won three of their last four games.
"Today we didn't miss some of the pitches. We made some good things happen," said Rangers manager Ron Washington. "We executed, we dropped bunts, we hit the long ball, hit a couple of doubles. We just played a solid ballgame."
Mike Zunino and Kyle Seager homered for the Mariners, who are battling for one of the AL's two wild-card spots.
Mariners righty Erasmo Ramirez (1-6) was charged with 10 runs in a spot start after being called up from Triple-A Tacoma so ace Felix Hernandez could get an extra day of rest.
Four Texas runs in the second inning included three that scored after Seattle right fielder Logan Morrison initially caught Tomas Telis' long fly ball, then dropped it when he crashed into the wall, giving Telis a double. Martin followed with an RBI single.
Odor teed off on a first-pitch fastball with one out in the third inning for his first career grand slam and an 8-1 Rangers' lead.
Ramirez lasted into the fourth inning but was lifted with no outs after giving up an RBI double to Elvis Andrus. Another run in the inning, which came on Adrian Beltre's sacrifice fly that made it 10-1, was charged to the righty, who doesn't have a win in his last 13 major-league starts.
"I was encouraged after the first inning. (But) for some reason he started getting up in the zone. That's not a good thing," said Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon. "He threw strikes. He just threw bad strikes."
Martin's two-run homer came off Joe Beimel in the sixth inning and gave the Rangers a 12-1 lead.
Lewis gave up a homer to Zunino with two outs in the second inning on a 1-1 fastball. He retired nine Mariners batters in a row between Kendrys Morales' two-run double with one out in the sixth and Seager's one-out homer in the ninth.
