Votto's hit sends Reds past Bucs in 11th

Apr 9, 2015 - 6:51 AM Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Joey Votto's RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning sent Cincinnati past Pittsburgh by a 5-4 count at Great American Ball Park, ending a game which was delayed at the outset by rain for more than 2 1/2 hours and which took four hours to complete.

Radhames Liz (0-1) hit Zack Cozart with one away, Billy Hamilton walked with two down and Votto ended the contest with a hit to right which plated Cozart.

J.J. Hoover (1-0) tossed two innings of scoreless relief for the Reds, who go for the series sweep on Thursday afternoon. Votto drove in two, Todd Frazier hit a homer and scored twice, while Brandon Phillips contributed an RBI single.

Cincy starter Mike Leake lasted 5 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and three runs while walking six batters and striking out six.

Neil Walker, Pedro Alvarez, Corey Hart and Francisco Cervelli knocked in a run apiece for the Pirates. Pittsburgh starter Gerrit Cole worked five full frames, giving up three runs on five hits while fanning six.

Frazier's two-out solo shot in the home first was countered with an Alvarez run-scoring double in the top of the second.

In the home third, Cozart doubled, was sacrificed to third and scored on Cole's wild pitch with Votto at the plate.

Cervelli doubled home Starling Marte in the fourth, but the Reds came back in the home portion when Phillips singled in Frazier.

A Walker sac fly in the fifth plated Josh Harrison, and the Pirates took a 4-3 lead in the seventh as pinch-hitter Hart sent Andrew McCutchen home with a two-out base hit.

The hosts tied the game with two away in the home seventh. Hamilton singled, moved up on a wild pitch then came in on a Votto single.

Both Pittsburgh and Cincinnati stranded a runner in scoring position in the ninth, and the visitors left one on second in the 10th.

Hamilton ended up with three hits and three stolen bases ... Pittsburgh left 11 runners on base and Cincinnati stranded 10 ... Harrison ended up 1-for-5 shortly after signing a four-year contract ... The official rain delay was 2 hours, 34 minutes.
