Mets rally for 10th straight win
Apr 23, 2015 - 4:18 AM Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Lucas Duda's single in the bottom of the eighth helped the New York Mets to their 10th straight win with a 3-2 decision over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night.Wilmer Flores, who had an RBI earlier in the game, tied the contest in the seventh with a solo homer to left center, then the Mets kept their streak alive in the next inning.
"You don't go out there and think about getting 10 wins, you go out there and execute and do anything to win," Flores said.
Curtis Granderson drew a pinch-hit walk to begin the eighth and scampered to third on Juan Lagares' infield single to second. Duda followed with a flare to left that knocked in Granderson for a 3-2 lead. New York did load the bases with successive two-out walks before Flores grounded out to end the inning.
Jeurys Familia came on in the ninth in place of Buddy Carlyle (1-0) and recorded his seventh save of the season.
"It was a great team job tonight," said Duda.
New York, which is 9-0 at Citi Field this season, last won 10 straight from July 5-17, 2008.
Jim Johnson (1-1) was tagged with the loss for his role in the eight inning for Atlanta, which has lost three of its last four.
Andrelton Simmons and Alberto Callaspo each knocked in runs for the Braves.
"We hit the ball hard and only got two runs to show for it," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said.
John Mayberry Jr., starting in place of Granderson, tripled to lead off the home first, but he was left stranded as Braves starter Eric Stults worked his way out of the jam.
A.J. Pierzynski doubled with one out in the second and scored on Simmons' single to center. New York challenged the safe ruling on the play, however, the call was upheld.
The Mets got the run back in the home second with a leadoff double by Eric Campbell and a single by Flores two batters later.
Eric Young Jr. tripled with one away in the fifth before Callaspo knocked him in with a sacrifice fly for a 2-1 lead.
