Rangers edge Angels in 11 innings
Apr 27, 2015 - 1:56 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Leonys Martin's solo homer highlighted a two-run top of the 11th inning as the Texas Rangers edged the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 5-4 in the finale of a three-game set.Martin smacked a leadoff shot to right against Jose Alvarez (0-1) to put the Rangers in front after they tied it in the ninth. Adam Rosales worked a two- out walk and Mitch Moreland followed with a single to put runners on the corners before Rosales scored when Erick Aybar committed a fielding error on an Elvis Andrus bouncer to shortstop.
Aybar's RBI single in the home half cut the deficit to 5-4, but Neftali Feliz (1-1) struck out Grant Green to end the game. Feliz fired two shutout innings to earn the win.
Moreland went 3-for-5 with two RBI for Texas, which had dropped five of its last six games coming in.
"We were able to grind out a win, we kept creating opportunities," Moreland said.
Mike Trout smacked a two-run homer and C.J. Cron went 4-for-4 for the Angels, who had a three-game winning streak snapped.
"There were a few things we didn't do on the field. We had good at-bats with not a lot to show for it," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.
Texas used a two-out rally to open the scoring. Andrus singled, Shin-Soo Choo reached on a fielding error by Aybar and Carlos Corporan walked to load the bases.
Hector Santiago hit Rougned Odor in the shoulder with a fastball to bring home Andrus, but Martin flew out to end the threat.
Jake Smolinski walked to lead off the third, Adrian Beltre smacked a double two batters later and Moreland's sacrifice fly pushed across Smolinski.
The Angels tied the game in the seventh and went ahead in the eighth. Johnny Giavotella hit a leadoff double and Trout belted his two-run shot to center and knot the score.
Cron and Matt Joyce hit two-out singles against Shawn Tolleson before Chris Iannetta walked to load the bases. Giavotella then blooped a base hit into shallow right-center to bring home pinch-runner Grant Green.
Kole Calhoun struck out and Trout rolled out to shortstop to strand the bases loaded.
