Cueto, Phillips help Reds down Brewers
Apr 29, 2015 - 4:41 AM Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Brandon Phillips hit a two-run home run and Johnny Cueto pitched eight strong innings to lead the Cincinnati Reds to a 4-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in the second of a three-game set.Cueto (2-2) allowed two solo homers among three hits while striking out six and Joey Votto and Marlon Byrd each hit a solo home run for the Reds, who have won six of seven against Milwaukee this season.
"As long as we keep playing the way we're playing we'll be all right," said Phillips. "I'm very proud of the team and hopefully we can pick up a win tomorrow and start stringing some together."
Kyle Lohse (1-4) allowed four runs on seven hits, three of which were home runs, and struck out five in seven innings for the Brewers, who have lost four of their last five.
"He had a real good outing except for the one inning," said Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke about Lohse. "Votto hit a good curveball and looked like he was looking for it, but the other inning he got some pitches up and they got to them."
The Reds got on the board in the first when Votto hit a two-out homer to right-center, his seventh of the season.
In the fourth, Jay Bruce singled with two outs and Phillips followed with his first home run of the season, a shot to straightaway center. Byrd then hit his second round-tripper of the year for a 4-0 lead.
Milwaukee got one back in the fifth when Aramis Ramirez led off the frame with his second homer of the year.
Ryan Braun led off the seventh with his second shot of the season, a blast over the right-center wall.
Cueto tossed a 1-2-3 eighth inning, and Aroldis Chapman did the same in the ninth for his fifth save of the season.
