Twins edge White Sox
May 3, 2015 - 5:36 AM Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Torii Hunter went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and scored twice as the Minnesota Twins grabbed a 5-3 win over the Chicago White Sox in the third of a four-game set.Trevor Plouffe hit a solo home run and drove in two, while Danny Santana was 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Twins, who have taken the first three of this series and have won four of five overall.
Ricky Nolasco (1-1) lasted five innings and was charged with three runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out four.
J.B. Shuck, Avisail Garcia and Micah Johnson each drove in a run for the White Sox, who have lost their last four. Hector Noesi (0-3) allowed five runs on five hits with a pair of walks and strikeouts in 4 1/3 frames.
"We had some opportunities, we're just not cashing in on them right now. Eventually that's going to happen for us," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said.
Chicago drew first blood in the contest, as a run-scoring groundout from Johnson and RBI single by Shuck in the second inning staked the White Sox to a 2-0 lead.
Plouffe led off the home second with his fourth home run of the season, a shot over the wall in left-center.
The White Sox got the run back in the third on Garcia's RBI single that plated Melky Cabrera for a 3-1 lead.
Minnesota, though, tied the game in the home third when Jordan Schafer led off with a walk and Hunter hit a two-out homer, his second of the season, to make it a 3-3 contest.
"He hung a slider," Hunter said.
The Twins then went on top in the fifth inning, which Santana led off with a double and moved to third when Hunter singled two batters later.
Carlos Rodon then took the mound for Chicago and walked Joe Mauer to load the bases. Plouffe followed with a single to right to score Santana, and Kurt Suzuki followed with a sac fly that plated Hunter for a 5-3 lead.
Aaron Thompson pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh and got the first out of the eighth before departing after a Cabrera single. It took three more pitchers to get out of the inning, but the Twins still held a two-run lead.
Glen Perkins tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his eighth save of the season.
Game Notes
Nolasco was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday after he was battling right elbow inflammation. Also, the team activated reliever Brian Duensing from the 15-day DL and optioned pitchers Tommy Milone and Caleb Thielbar to Triple-A Rochester following Friday's win ... Noesi fell to 2-3 in nine games against the Twins.
