Hudson shines as Giants hold off Angels

May 3, 2015 - 12:48 AM San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tim Hudson finally received offensive support and backed it with a solid outing as the San Francisco Giants held off the Los Angels of Anaheim for a 5-4 victory in the second of a three-game interleague set on Saturday.

Hudson (1-2) allowed three runs on two hits and two walks with four strikeouts in eight-plus innings of work. He entered the game with just five runs of support from his teammates this season.

"It does make our job a lot more easier," Hudson said of the offensive help. "We can go out there and be a lot more aggressive in the strike zone."

Buster Posey and Brandon Crawford each homered and Nori Aoki drove in two runs for the Giants, who won Friday's series opener 3-2 on Joe Panik's RBI single in the ninth inning.

Mike Trout went 2-for-4 with a homer and two runs scored and Albert Pujols also went yard for the Angels, who had starter Hector Santiago (2-2) give up four runs on nine hits over five frames.

The Angels brought the winning run to the plate in the ninth. Sergio Romo entered after Hudson conceded a leadoff walk. Erick Aybar reached first on a fielder's choice and Trout singled.

After Pujols struck out, Jeremy Affeldt gave up an RBI single to Kole Calhoun and David Freese made it a one-run game with a run-scoring single off Santiago Casilla. With runners on first and third, Casilla earned his seventh save of the season after Matt Joyce's liner hit pinch-runner Taylor Featherston for the third out.

"The game is ruthless sometimes," said Joyce. "Hopefully things turn around."

Casey McGehee and Crawford each singled with one out in the second and came home on Aoki's line-drive single to left for an early Giants lead.

In the fourth, Trout cut the deficit in half with a homer to left center, but Crawford countered in the home half with a solo blast of his own to center for a 3-1 score.

San Francisco added to its lead in the fifth. Justin Maxwell got aboard with a one-out single, moved to second on Brandon Belt's groundout and scored on McGehee's RBI single.

Pujols hammered a 2-2 sinker to left center with one out in the seventh, but Posey followed suit off Vinnie Pestano in the bottom half for a 5-2 game.
