Bryant hits 1st career homer, Cubs fall to Brewers

May 10, 2015 - 5:27 AM Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Jason Rogers' first career homer overshadowed Kris Bryant's on Saturday night.

His helped break the game open.

Rogers' three-run shot highlighted a five-run fifth inning and the Milwaukee Brewers pounded the Chicago Cubs 12-4 in the second of a three-game set.

"Last year I was a little upset that I wasn't starting," Rogers said. "Embracing that (pinch-hit) role this year."

Gerardo Parra smacked a two-run blast among his two hits, four RBI and two runs scored. Khris Davis had three hits, three RBI and a pair of runs scored and Jean Segura cracked a solo homer for Milwaukee, which had dropped three of its previous four games.

Kyle Lohse (2-4) struck out seven and allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings to pick up the win.

Bryant was greeted by an empty dugout in the third after golfing a Lohse slider into the Milwaukee bullpen for his first career homer, a three-run blast.

"It's kind of been a while, but I did it," Bryant said. "It's a cool feeling and we had fun with it. It would have been nice to get a win out of it, but it will still be a day I'll be able to remember."

Bryant was homerless over his first 73 at-bats after hitting nine homers during spring training.

Travis Wood (2-2) surrendered six runs -- four earned -- on six hits and a walk over four frames for the Cubs, who have lost six of their last eight games.

The Brewers led 6-4 before breaking the game open with their five-run fifth. Ryan Braun and Adam Lind walked to begin the frame and Braun came home on Davis' double to left-center. Phil Coke replaced Edwin Jackson on the mound and walked Parra.

Martin Maldonado lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Lind and an Elian Herrera groundout put runners on second and third. The pinch-hitter Rogers then launched his three-run blast into the Milwaukee bullpen for an 11-4 Brewers margin.

Parra's run-scoring base hit in the sixth made it 12-4.

Earlier, Milwaukee raced out to a 2-0 lead following a two-run second, but the Cubs answered with a three-run third to go in front. Parra's two-run shot in the second got the Brewers on the board, preceding Bryant's blast in the third.

Milwaukee countered right back with a three-run home half. Davis ripped a two- run, ground-rule double to left and Parra's sacrifice fly made it 5-3 in favor of the Brewers.

Both teams pushed across a run in the fourth. Starlin Castro hit an RBI single in the top half and Segura's solo blast in the bottom portion made it 6-4.

Game Notes

The Brewers scored at least one run in each of the second through sixth innings ... Milwaukee was 5-for-9 with runners in scoring position, while Chicago finished 2-for-7 with RISP ... Bryant has 17 RBI on the season ... Cubs catcher David Ross tossed a scoreless eighth.
