Beckham gives White Sox walk-off win over Reds

May 11, 2015 - 1:05 AM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Gordon Beckham's two-out RBI single in the ninth inning gave the Chicago White Sox a 4-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds in the rubber match of a three-game set on Mother's Day.

"I guess she'll get a present now from that bat," Beckham said.

Aroldis Chapman (1-1) retired the first two batters of the ninth, but Avisail Garcia kept the frame alive with a single and Alexei Ramirez followed with a base hit. A wild pitch moved the runners up a base, and Beckham dropped a single to right-center for the win.

"To me it was a really good pitch. He was actually behind, but he made contact," Chapman said through an interpreter.

Emilio Bonifacio drove in two runs while Ramirez also had an RBI for the White Sox, who have won four of their last six. John Danks went seven innings and allowed a run on six hits, while David Robertson (3-0) got the win despite blowing the lead in the ninth inning.

Zack Cozart went 3-for-4 with two RBI for the Reds, who have dropped three of four. Michael Lorenzen allowed a run on seven hits while walking four in five innings.

The White Sox went on top in the second inning as Tyler Flowers hit a two-out double and later scored on a Bonifacio single for a 1-0 lead.

Cincinnati, though, tied the game in the fourth after Brandon Phillips singled and Devin Mesoraco brought him home with a triple to center.

The score stayed that way until the bottom of the seventh when Chicago went on top. Jose Abreu started the inning with a walk and Adam LaRoche followed with a free pass. Both runners moved up a base on a fly out from Garcia, and Ramirez followed with a sac fly to right that plated Abreu for a 2-1 lead.

After Zach Duke got out of a two-on jam in the eighth, the White Sox padded their lead in the home eighth when Bonifacio's run-scoring groundout made it a 3-1 game.

Cincinnati tied the game in the ninth off Robertson as singles from Devin Mesoraco and Brayan Pena, both of whom were replaced on the basepaths by pinch runners, were followed by a double from Cozart that scored both. Robertson was able to keep the game tied by striking out the next two batters and getting Joey Votto to groundout.

Game Notes

Chicago plays three in Milwaukee starting on Monday ... Cincinnati hosts Atlanta for three games beginning Monday ... The White Sox stranded 13 and the Reds left nine on base.
