Beltre hits 399th HR, Rangers beat Royals
May 12, 2015 - 5:40 AM Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Adrian Beltre cracked his 399th career home run and Thomas Field hit his first in his Texas Rangers debut.Beltre's two-run blast and solo shots by Field and Prince Fielder backed seven strong innings from Colby Lewis, leading the Rangers to an 8-2 win over the Kansas City Royals on Monday night in the opener of a four-game series.
Lewis (3-2) followed his best start of the season last week against Houston with another good effort, allowing three hits, one run and two walks while striking out five.
"Colby Lewis threw great," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "It was all Lewis. He was good."
The Rangers, who opened a seven-game homestand, have won two in a row and six of their last eight.
Beltre homered in a second consecutive game and Fielder went deep for the first time since May 1.
"Those are the guys in the heart of the lineup that are going to make this offense go," said Rangers manager Jeff Banister. "To watch them heat up it just gives you a glance at what this offense can do."
Royals starter Danny Duffy (2-2) went just 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on five hits and a season-high six walks.
Duffy walked the first three batters in the second inning and Delino DeShields followed with a two-run double. Another run scored on Duffy's wild pitch and Shin-Soo Choo hit an RBI single to make it 4-0.
The Royals scored in the fourth inning on Kendrys Morales' single, but Mike Moustakas was thrown out at home plate to end the inning.
Beltre's two-run shot in the fourth made it 6-1, chasing Duffy from the game.
Field, a 28-year-old second baseman who was called up Monday when the Rangers sent Rougned Odor to Triple-A Round Rock, drove Yohan Pino's 2-0 fastball over the center-field wall leading off the seventh inning.
His first career homer came in his 79th major league at-bat and first game since 2013.
Alcides Escobar hit an RBI double in the top of the eighth off Rangers reliever Keone Kela, but Fielder led off the bottom of the inning with a homer on Franklin Morales' first pitch.
Game Notes
Field was born in Austin, Texas, and grew up a Rangers fan ... Pino gave up three hits and struck out five in 3 1/3 innings for Kansas City ... Moustakas returned from the bereavement list after three days and went 0-for-3 with a walk ...
