Kinsler's hit lifts Tigers over Twins in 10 innings

May 13, 2015 - 4:15 AM Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Ian Kinsler's RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted the Detroit Tigers to a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night.

Ryan Pressly (1-1) gave up a one-out double to Anthony Gose, who scored the winning run on Kinsler's hit to right-center field.

"I think everyone in here felt like we should have won Sunday," Kinsler said. "Coming in here after a day off to get a win, it's a good feeling."

Detroit starter Alfredo Simon gave up one run on six hits while striking out six over 7 2/3 innings. Angel Nesbitt (1-1) tossed a scoreless 10th for his first career win.

"Simon was tough, but we had some opportunities against him and we just didn't get the kind of at-bats that we've had with runners in scoring position lately," Twins manager Paul Molitor said.

Kyle Gibson got the start for Minnesota and allowed one run on five hits with six strikeouts over seven innings.

J.D. Martinez's homer in the fourth made it 1-0 Detroit.

The Twins finally got to Simon in the eighth. Danny Santana led off with a triple off the wall in right-center field and raced home on Torii Hunter's sacrifice fly to shallow center.

The Tigers had a chance to win the game in the ninth. Yoenis Cespedes hit a one-out double to left-center field and moved to third when pinch-hitter Rajai Davis grounded out. Blaine Boyer sent the game into extras when he got James McCann to line out to right.
