Sale pitches White Sox to road win
May 13, 2015 - 4:55 AM Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Sale bounced back from two poor outings and helped the White Sox to a rare road win as they eked by the Brewers 4-2 on Tuesday.Sale (3-1) was touched for 13 runs over starts against the Twins and Tigers last week but mowed down the streaking Brewers, who had erupted for 25 runs during a three-game winning streak coming in.
They had no such success against Sale, managing just three hits and two runs over his eight innings on the hill. The left-hander struck out 11 and issued just one walk.
"After leaving my guys out to dry, I wanted to have a start like this," Sale said. "Now we have to build off it."
Alexei Ramirez drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly against Michael Blazek (3-1), Jose Abreu's RBI single added an insurance run in the ninth, and David Robertson went 1-2-3 in posting his sixth save.
Chicago won for just the third time on the road and snapped a seven-game skid as the visitor.
Brewers starter Mike Fiers struck out seven over 6 1/3 quality innings but did not factor in the decision. After giving up 15 runs over his first four starts at Miller Park, Fiers limited the Sox to two runs on five hits.
"I thought I (pitched) pretty well," Fiers said. "I felt good."
Jean Segura tripled and scored on a Ryan Braun groundout in the first inning, and the 1-0 lead held up until Chicago pushed a pair across in the fifth.
Fiers allowed only an infield single over the first four frames, but back-to- back doubles to open the fifth tied things. Tyler Flowers doubled in Ramirez and scored on Micah Johnson's base hit to right.
Elian Herrera's third home run in as many days tied it in the bottom half.
Game Notes
Sale made his first start since serving his five-game suspension for his involvement in a brawl with Kansas City on Apr. 23 ... Flowers and Avisail Garcia both recorded two hits for Chicago ... The rubber match of this three- game series on Wednesday pits Milwaukee's Jimmy Nelson against White Sox lefty Jose Quintana.
