Reddick, A's ease past Red Sox

May 13, 2015 - 5:46 AM Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Josh Reddick went 4-for-5 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored as the Oakland Athletics defeated the Boston Red Sox, 9-2, in the second of a three-game series on Tuesday night.

Stephen Vogt and Marcus Semien also went yard in the win that halted a six- game losing skid for the A's.

Drew Pomeranz (2-3), making his first career start against the Red Sox, allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings of work.

"He threw strikes," A's manager Bob Melvin said of Pomeranz. "We needed him to go seven innings tonight. It's usually a good recipe when your starter goes deep into games and you play good defense."

Justin Masterson (2-2) was charged with six runs on six hits in 2 1/3 innings on the hill for Boston, which had won two straight coming in.

Mike Napoli and Blake Swihart each had an RBI in the loss.

Oakland scored early and often in this one.

Reddick started things off with an RBI single in the first and he trotted home on Vogt's ninth homer of the season for a 3-0 lead after one.

The A's added one more in the second on Eric Sogard's RBI double. Reddick then poked a solo homer in the third and Sogard followed soon after with a two-run single for a 7-0 advantage.

Semien hit his sixth homer of the season in the fourth to make it 8-0.

Swihart had an RBI groundout in the sixth and Napoli made it a six-run deficit with a run-scoring single in the seventh. Reddick capped the scoring with an RBI single in the eighth.
