Cargo's homer helps Rockies end 11-game skid

May 15, 2015 - 6:54 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Carlos Gonzalez smacked a go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to lift the Colorado Rockies to a 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opener of a four-game set.

Nick Hundley and Drew Stubbs singled around a D.J. LeMahieu strikeout to begin the frame. Yimi Garcia (2-1) then fanned Charlie Blackmon, but Gonzalez golfed a fastball deep into the bleachers in right to snap Colorado's 11-game losing streak.

John Axford fired a scoreless bottom half of the ninth to notch his fourth save of the year.

Wilin Rosario cracked a solo homer among his two RBI in the triumph. Rafael Betancourt (1-1) blanked the Dodgers in the eighth to earn the win.

Adrian Gonzalez hit a two-run double for the Dodgers, who had won five of their last six games coming in.

LA starter Brett Anderson struck out eight and allowed two runs on five hits and a walk over 5 1/3 innings before exiting due to a 1 hour and 25-minute rain delay during top of the sixth inning.

The Dodgers plated a pair of runs in the first inning to jump out to a 2-0 lead.

Jimmy Rollins hit a one-out double and Howie Kendrick singled to put runners on the corners. Adrian Gonzalez then ripped a two-bagger to right to bring home both runners.

Each team scored a run in the second.

Rosario led off the top half with his solo shot to right. Andre Ethier doubled to begin the home second and Anderson doubled to push across Ethier.

Yasmani Grandal's RBI single in the fifth increased the lead to 4-1.

The Rockies put runners on the corners with one out in the sixth until the rain came. Rollins committed a fielding error on Rosario's bouncer to shortstop, allowing Carlos Gonzalez to score and Corey Dickerson followed with a single to load the bases.

Juan Nicasio, however, struck out Hundley and LeMahieu to end the threat.
