Brewers blank Mets
May 16, 2015 - 4:49 AM Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Braun smacked two homers and the Milwaukee Brewers blanked the New York Mets 7-0 in the opener of a three-game set."He got some pitches tonight that he can do damage with and he did," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said of Braun.
Braun cracked a two-run and solo shot, while Gerardo Parra added a solo blast and an RBI double for the Brewers, who have won four of their last six games. Kyle Lohse (3-4) struck out eight and allowed just two hits and a walk in his eight shutout innings.
Bartolo Colon (6-2) surrendered six runs -- five earned -- on seven hits over five frames for New York, which has dropped five straight games.
"When he misses on the plate like he did tonight, he's going to get hit," Mets manager Terry Collins said.
The Brewers raced out to a 6-0 lead after plating a run in the first, four in the second and another in the fifth.
Adam Lind and Aramis Ramirez led off the opening frame with doubles to start the scoring.
Hector Gomez began the second by reaching on a Wilmer Flores throwing error after bouncing one to the shortstop. He scored on Carlos Gomez's double into the gap in left-center. Gomez scored on Parra's double to right and Braun's two-run shot to left made it 5-0.
Parra cracked a leadoff blast to right in the fifth.
Braun's second homer, a shot to right-center, increased the margin to 7-0.
