DeGrom Ks 10, Mets hit 4 HRs to beat D-backs

Jun 8, 2015 - 5:13 AM Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Jacob deGrom struck out 10 to remain unbeaten in his last five starts, Curtis Granderson homered twice and the New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-3 on Sunday afternoon to split a four-game series.

DeGrom (7-4) improved to 4-0 in his last five outings -- the Mets have won each game -- after giving up two earned runs on five hits and three walks.

The reigning NL Rookie of the Year has allowed just five earned runs, 19 hits and four walks during his unbeaten streak, striking out 44 in 36 1/3 innings.

Granderson hit two leadoff home runs off D-backs starter Josh Collmenter in the first and fifth innings and Wilmer Flores did it in the sixth as the Mets finished a 3-4 road trip and took a half-game lead over Washington for first place in the NL East.

Eric Campbell also homered off Collmenter, a two-run blast.

The Diamondbacks ended a 4-3 homestand with a punchless offensive showing, getting just five hits overall and only three after the first inning.

Collmenter (3-6) gave up nine hits and a walk while striking out one in six innings. He is 0-3 in his last six starts.

"If he's up and out over the plate, they hit him," said Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale. "He just has to have good location or big league players are going to hurt you."

Granderson homered on Collmenter's fourth pitch, sending a 2-1 changeup into the right- field seats.

Ender Inciarte led off the bottom of the first with a double off deGrom and eventually scored on a throwing error by Campbell at third. David Peralta followed with a sacrifice fly to score A.J. Pollock, who had singled.

But the Mets took the lead for good in the second inning after Juan Lagares stroked a ground-rule double -- one of his three hits -- and Campbell launched his second homer of the season into the left-field seats.

Collmenter escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fourth when deGrom popped out to shallow left-center field.

Granderson homered again into the right-field seats leading off the fifth inning and Flores started the sixth with a blast to center to give the Mets a 5-2 advantage.

DeGrom struck out the side in the second inning and faced just one batter over the minimum after the first until Paul Goldschmidt singled with one out in the sixth for Arizona's third hit. Goldschmidt eventually scored from third when Chris Owings beat out a bunt single.

"In the first inning, I gave up back-to-back hits and made some mistakes over the middle," said deGrom. "After that, I had to focus and start locating a little better."

Arizona had the tying run at the plate twice in the seventh inning after Aaron Hill drew a one-out walk, but deGrom retired both batters.

Hansel Robles threw a 1-2-3 eighth inning for New York and the Mets tacked on a run ninth after Campbell hit a leadoff single, stole second and third base and scored on pinch-hitter Darrell Ceciliani's single.

Jeurys Familia threw a perfect ninth inning for his 17th save of the season.
