Orioles get the better of Red Sox once more

Jun 11, 2015 - 4:06 AM Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - J.J. Hardy drove in two runs as Baltimore took down Boston by a 5-2 count in the middle test of a three-game series.

Adam Jones, Travis Snider and Ryan Flaherty each knocked in a run for the Orioles, who were coming off a 1-0 decision in Tuesday's opener.

Wei-Yin Chen (2-4) lasted only five-plus innings, but did enough to earn the win by allowing two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

Brock Holt picked up two hits and an RBI with Mike Napoli sending home the other run for the Red Sox.

Rick Porcello (4-6) gave up 10 hits and five runs while also fanning five in his 5 1/3 frames.

"It's frustrating, trust me. I'm doing everything I can to go out there and put up a zero and it just didn't happen," Porcello lamented.

The Sox climbed back to 3-2 in the sixth. Dustin Pedroia doubled, Holt singled and Chen exited for Tommy Hunter. He managed to retire the next three batters, but not before a Napoli fielder's choice grounder scored Pedroia.

Chris Davis, Delmon Young and Snider started the home half with singles to make it 4-2, then Hardy's fly to right brought in Young for a three-run bulge.

Hunter turned away the visitors in order in the seventh, then Darren O'Day continued the trend by setting down the final six batters of the contest to earn his second save.

"That was a lot of fun, watching everybody get in the mix," said Snider. "Chen battled for us, bullpen came in and shut the door and a lot of guys were able to come through offensively. It's a good team win."

After striking out the side on 11 pitches in the first, the Orioles got to Porcello in the second as Hardy's RBI double and Flaherty's run-scoring single both occurred with two outs.

Each side produced a run in the third, with Holt's double bringing in Pedroia and halving Boston's deficit but Jones' single that plated Manny Machado pushed Baltimore's lead back up to two at 3-1.

Game Notes

Chen picked up his first win since May 9, having gone 0-3 in five starts since then ... The Red Sox have scored two runs or fewer in 24 of their 60 games this season ... The Orioles have won five of their last six overall.
