Price tosses shutout as Tigers beat Indians

Jun 13, 2015 - 3:25 AM Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - David Price tossed his second straight complete game and third career shutout as the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians 4-0 in the opener of a three-game series at Comerica Park.

Miguel Cabrera supported Price's gem with a three-run homer and an RBI double.

Price (6-2) limited the Indians to seven hits and struck out eight with no walks. The left-hander threw only 93 pitches in his first shutout since April 24, 2012 and received plenty of help from his defense, which turned four double plays.

Cleveland starter Danny Salazar (6-2) tossed five scoreless innings before surrendering the home run to Cabrera. He gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out six over seven innings.

"Other than (Cabrera's home run), Danny pitched really well and was dominant," said Cleveland manager Terry Francona.

Anthony Gose and Rajai Davis hit back-to-back singles off Salazar to begin the sixth. After Ian Kinsler struck out swinging, Cabrera blasted a mammoth home run off the camera well in center field. The homer was estimated at 452 feet.

"It's not often you see a home run to center that you know is gone off the bat at Comerica Park, and I think everyone knew it was gone off the bat," said Detroit manager Brad Ausmus.

Price pitched around a leadoff double by Michael Brantley in the seventh and induced a double-play grounder to end the eighth.

After Cabrera doubled home Kinsler in the bottom of the eighth, Price tossed a 1-2-3 ninth.

Salazar's outing began with a single by Davis, who stole second but was tagged out at home on a 1-3-2 double play to end the first inning.
