Phillies recall prospect Brown, activate C Schneider

Jul 31, 2012 - 6:36 PM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - After the Philadelphia Phillies traded away two-thirds of their starting outfield, they recalled prospect Domonic Brown from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Brown has seen time in the majors each of the last two seasons to mixed reviews. In 56 games last year, he batted .245 with a .333 on-base percentage and a .391 slugging percentage; Brown was expected to be the team's everyday right fielder last year, but a hamate bone injury thwarted that and led to the team's mid-season acquisition of Hunter Pence.

Pence, though, was traded to San Francisco earlier Tuesday.

In 91 career major league games, Brown has seven homers to go with his .236 average, .314 OBP and .382 SLG. Only 24, it remains to be seen how much playing time he will receive the rest of the season.

Philadelphia also activated backup catcher Brian Schneider from the 15-day disabled list. In 26 games this season, Scheider is 16-for-69 with two homers and three doubles.

He had been out since late June with an ankle sprain.
