Mets recall LHP Olson
Aug 7, 2012 - 8:30 PM Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Mets recalled left-handed pitcher Garrett Olson from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday and optioned right-handed pitcher Elvin Ramirez to the same club.The Mets are in need of a lefty after it was discovered Monday that reliever Tim Byrdak has a torn anterior capsule in his left shoulder, which could require surgery.
Olson, 28, went 4-7 with a 4.56 earned run average in 25 games -- 21 starts -- with Buffalo this season. He made four appearances in the majors last year as a member of the Pirates, going 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA in 4 1/3 innings.
Over five major league seasons, Olson has compiled a 14-22 record with a 6.14 ERA in 103 games -- 44 starts -- with the Orioles, Mariners and Pirates.
Ramirez, 24, appeared in 11 games with the Mets this season and went 0-1 with a 7.30 ERA.
Also on Tuesday, the Mets transferred pitcher Dillon Gee from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL. The 26-year-old landed on the 15-day DL on July 13 after he underwent surgery to replace part of a damaged artery in his right throwing shoulder.
