Dodgers RHP Schmidt returns to DL
Jun 18, 2007 - 6:23 PM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Los Angeles Dodgers ace righthander Jason Schmidt is back on the 15-day disabled list as he continues to battle a right shoulder injury. The veteran righthander had made only three starts since coming off the DL with the same problem on June 5, and he has struggled to regain his velocity.
The 34-year-old Schmidt, who signed a three-year, $47 million contract with the Dodgers last December, is 1-4 with a 6.31 ERA in six starts this season.
Schmidt's place on the roster has been filled by utility man Marlon Anderson, who was recalled from a rehab assignment at Class AAA Las Vegas. Righthanded reliever Chad Billingsley is the top candidate to fill Schmidt's spot in the starting rotation.
The Dodgers begin a 10-day road trip Tuesday when they visit the Toronto Blue Jays.
