Hopeful Diamondbacks resume set against Rockies

The Diamondbacks are 4 1/2 games off the final postseason berth in the National League with 12 to play and recorded a 15-5 rout of the Rockies in last night's series opener. Chris Johnson was 3-for-6 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI, while Adam Eaton homered in the win.
Justin Upton added two hits and scored three times for Arizona, which got three hits, three runs scored and a trio of RBI from Miguel Montero. John McDonald also had three hits in the win, Arizona's sixth in nine tries.
Wade Miley didn't have his best stuff, but was bailed out by the offense. Miley gave up five runs and 10 hits in six innings of work.
"Just contributions from everybody," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said. "You learn in games here you can never relax."
Arizona opened a seven-game road trip on a high note and also will visit San Francisco for three games.
The Diamondbacks will send youngster Patrick Corbin to the mound Saturday and he is coming off a quality start versus the Giants at Chase Field. In a 10-2 pounding of the visitors, Corbin allowed two runs in eight innings to improve to 6-7 with a 4.02 ERA in 19 games (14 starts).
Corbin, a left-hander, ended a four-start losing streak (0-3) and will face Colorado for the second time. The rookie was dealt the loss in a 6-1 decision on May 16 at Coors Field and gave up six runs and nine hits in six innings.
The Rockies continued their downward spiral last night, losing for the seventh straight time and for the 14th time in 16 tries.
Drew Pomeranz pitched the first three innings and allowed four runs in the no- decision. Alex White then tossed the next 1 1/3 frames and was saddled with the loss for giving up five runs and five hits.
"Drew Pomeranz did not throw strikes. We went to the fourth inning tied at four. We got the first two guys out on six or seven pitches, and they ended up batting around and scoring four runs. That's going to take a lot of air out of your balloon, believe me," Colorado manager Jim Tracy said.
Wilin Rosario collected three hits, an RBI and a run scored, and both Chris Nelson and Jonathan Herrera had two hits and an RBI for the Rockies.
The Rockies are three losses from matching the worst finish in their 20-season history (67-95 in 1993 and 2005).
Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez left Thursday's game against San Francisco before the third inning with tightness in his left hamstring and did not play in Friday's series opener. He is day-to-day.
Colorado will host the Chicago Cubs as well on this homestand.
Jhoulys Chacin draws the start for the Rockies tonight and is just 2-5 in 11 starts to go along with a 4.58 earned run average. Chacin is 0-1 in his previous three outings and recorded his second straight no-decision in Monday's 2-1 road loss against the Giants in which he yielded only one run in five innings.
Chacin has faced Arizona eight times in his career, seven of which were starts, and is 3-2 with a 2.76 ERA.
Arizona has beaten Colorado seven times in 12 meetings this season.
