Rockies rely on Chacin against Brewers
Jul 28, 2013 - 2:45 PM (Sports Network) - The last time Jhoulys Chacin faced the Milwaukee Brewers, the Colorado Rockies suffered a 5-4 loss in 10 innings at Miller Park. That was April 1, Opening Day of the 2013 season. Chacin didn't get a decision in that contest after throwing limiting the Brewers to three hits and a run over 6 2/3 innings. The right-hander has another chance to get his first career win against the Brewers Sunday when the teams play the rubber match of a three-game set at Coors Field.
Chacin has lost two of his last three starts, but has pitched well each time. In seven innings against the Marlins on Tuesday, Chacin gave up eight hits and three runs, but the Rockies suffered a 4-2 loss. He's allowed five runs over his last three appearances. This will be his fourth start against Milwaukee, but Chacin has yet to record a decision.
Rookie right-hander Donovan Hand counters for the Brewers. Hand suffered a 6-2 loss against San Diego on Tuesday. He allowed seven hits and a pair of runs over four innings before leaving the contest due to a contusion of his right hand. Hand was hit by a pitch from Tyson Ross in the third inning.
So far this season, Hand is 0-2 in four starts and doesn't have a decision in 12 relief efforts.
Last night's game endured a 1-hour, 45-minute rain delay in the ninth inning, but the Brewers came away with a 7-5 win.
Juan Francisco hit a two-run homer and Jean Segura had two hits and a pair of RBI to lead Milwaukee.
Jonathan Lucroy went 2-for-4 with a homer and two runs scored and Carlos Gomez finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and three stolen bases for the Brewers, who had lost four of their previous five games.
Tom Gorzelanny (2-4) gave up four runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings to earn the win.
Following the delay in the middle of the ninth inning, Jim Henderson retired the side in order the bottom of the frame to earn his 12th save of the season.
Troy Tulowitzki went 3-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored and Wilin Rosario added a three-run homer for the Rockies.
Collin McHugh (0-2), who was called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs earlier on Saturday, made his Colorado debut, giving up six runs on nine hits over five innings to absorb the loss. McHugh made three relief appearances for the New York Mets earlier this season before being shipped to the Rockies in the Eric Young deal.
The Rockies took two of three meetings at Miller Park to open this season. Colorado has won nine of the last 12 versus Milwaukee.
