Giants edge Dodgers in 12 innings
Apr 16, 2014 - 7:31 AM San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Hector Sanchez's game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning lifted the San Francisco Giants to a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opener of a three-game series.Brandon Crawford hit a one-out single to center against Brandon League (0-1) and scampered to second on a Brandon Hicks groundout. A League wild pitch advanced Crawford to third before he crossed the plate on Sanchez's base hit up the middle.
Yusmeiro Petit (1-1) tossed a scoreless top of the 12th to get the win.
Brandon Belt and Hunter Pence each had three hits for San Francisco, which has won three of its last four.
Juan Uribe smacked a solo homer for the Dodgers, who had a three-game winning streak snapped.
Holding a 2-1 lead, the Dodgers sent Kenley Jansen to the mound in the ninth. Angel Pagan reached base on an infield single that deflected off Jansen's foot. Belt followed with an RBI double down the left-field line. Pablo Sandoval struck out swinging and Pence flied out to force extra innings.
The Giants wasted a golden scoring oppurtunity in the 10th. Gregor Blanco was initially called out at first on a dribbler back to the pitcher. The play was overturned and Blanco took first. Crawford reached base on a bunt single and Hector Sanchez walked to load the bases with one out. But Jamey Wright retired Pagan and Belt to end the threat.
Earlier, the Dodgers took a 1-0 lead on Uribe's homer to left in the second.
San Francisco left the bases loaded in the fourth and fifth frames.
The home team finally got on the board in the sixth. With Chris Withrow on the mound, Pence singled, moved to second on Hanley Ramirez's throwing error, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Crawford's sacrifice fly.
Los Angeles took the lead back in the seventh when Uribe raced home on pinch- hitter Justin Turner's single to center. Jean Machi gave up a leadoff double to Uribe, who moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. After pinch-hitter Matt Kemp walked, Javier Lopez took over on the mound. Turner's RBI single made it 2-1.
San Francisco put men on first and second with no outs in the eighth. Chris Perez, however, struck out Crawford and got Brandon Hicks to ground into a double play.
