Mariners summon Maurer for Sunday start

Apr 20, 2014 - 4:29 PM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Seattle Mariners recalled pitcher Brandon Maurer from Triple-A Tacoma and named him the starter for Sunday's series finale against the Miami Marlins.

Maurer made his major league debut with the Mariners in 2013 and went 5-8 with a 6.30 earned run average over 22 games, including 14 starts.

The 23-year-old right-hander has appeared in four games with one start at Tacoma this season, posting a 2.16 ERA with 17 strikeouts over 8 1/3 innings.

To make room for Maurer on the roster, Seattle optioned outfielder James Jones to Tacoma.
