White Sox rip Texas
Apr 21, 2014 - 1:46 AM Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcus Semien went 4-for-6 with four RBI to help the Chicago White Sox secure a 16-2 win over the Texas Rangers in the finale of a three-game set Sunday at Globe Life Park.Jordan Danks and Jose Abreu each belted a two-run homer, while Dayan Viciedo added a solo shot, scored three times and plated a pair of runs for the White Sox, who snapped a four-game losing streak.
"We put together some good at bats. We swung at strikes and got pitches up and hit the ball the other way," Semien said. "If you hit the ball to right here you can get it in that jet stream and get it out of the ballpark. It was a good team win."
Erik Johnson (1-1) picked up the win after limiting Texas to two runs -- one earned -- on one hit with five walks over five frames.
Texas starter Robbie Ross Jr. (1-1) was knocked around for seven runs -- four earned -- on seven hits while striking out eight over 5 1/3 innings to absorb the loss.
Luis Sardinas made his major league debut in the setback and collected one of the two hits for the Rangers, who had won five straight and finished 7-3 on a 10-game homestand.
"Definitely satisfied with the way things turned out (on the homestand). We won each series, we just have to keep winning series and we'll be fine," said Rangers manager Ron Washington. 'It will get to the point when things fall in place and we sweep a series. Just have to keep taking it a day at a time and playing the best game we can."
Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus scored from third on a Johnson wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 2-2, but the White Sox scored three runs in each of the next two frames to take control of the contest.
In the fifth, Tyler Flowers led off with a single and after Danks fanned, Semien reached first when third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff misfired on a throw to second.
Conor Gillaspie then plated Flowers with a sacrifice fly to right field before Abreu scorched a 1-1 fastball over the wall in right for a 5-2 lead.
After Texas went down in order in the home half of the fifth, Viciedo started the sixth with a double before Alexei Ramirez swung and missed at strike three. However, the ball rolled to the backstop, allowing Ramirez to reach first safely.
Ross then fanned Alejandro De Aza before Shawn Tolleson took over on the mound and struck out Flowers for the second out.
Tolleson then intentionally walked Danks to get to Semien, who scorched his first career triple off the top of the wall in left-center field to clear the bases and give Chicago an 8-2 lead.
Viciedo drilled his first homer of the season over the wall in right with two away in the seventh before adding an RBI single to spark Chicago's seven-run ninth inning.
Two batters later, De Aza smacked a two-out single to center and Semien added a run-scoring single shortly after for a 13-2 lead.
Gillaspie followed Semien's base hit with a two-run double to right before scoring on Abreu's double to left to account for the final margin.
Early on, Danks crushed a two-run homer to right to get the White Sox on the board in the third, but Shin-Soo Choo answered with a sac fly in the bottom of the frame before Johnson's wild pitch plated Andrus in the fourth to tie the game.
