Rangers' Soto heads back to DL

Jul 22, 2014 - 8:35 PM Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Texas Rangers catcher Geovany Soto has once again landed on the disabled list.

Soto, who missed the first half of this season recovering from right knee surgery, sustained a right groin strain while running the bases during Monday's 4-2 win over the New York Yankees and was subsequently placed on the 15-day DL.

The Rangers needed to make a roster move anyway with pitcher Nick Martinez, scheduled to start Tuesday's game with New York, set to come off the DL.

Soto returned to the lineup on July 18 but played in just three games before getting hurt. The veteran backstop went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Monday's contest and was 4-for-11 in limited action.

Martinez was sent to the DL with discomfort in his left side following a July 1 start at Baltimore, in which the rookie was shelled for eight runs -- six earned -- and gave up three homers in five innings.

The 23-year-old enters Tuesday's matchup having dropped five straight decisions since earning his only major league win at Detroit on May 24. In 16 overall appearances (11 starts) for Texas, Martinez has gone 1-6 with a 5.10 ERA.
